How to Adopt
At P.A.W.S, all of our cats and dogs undergo a minimum assessment period in loving foster homes. We pride ourselves on thoroughly assessing all our animals so we can hand-pick the best home possible.
We have a five-step application process to make sure we match every animal with their perfect home.

5
Complete our application form online. You'll tell us some basic information about you, your home and your lifestyle along with what you're looking for in a new pet.
We will complete a home check where we find out more about you, and make sure your home is safe for a rescue pet. Homechecks are always completed in person, never by video call.
Once your homecheck is approved, you'll attend a meeting on Zoom. This is an informal call with the P.A.W.S Team and other newly-approved applicants. We'll give you some hints and tips for when you adopt and you can ask our behaviour experts any questions.
Now comes the exciting part - seeing which animals might be a match for you! As you'll now be ready to adopt, you'll get first look at our new animals. Simply let us know if you think you have seen your match based on the descriptions given.
If we agree that this animal might be the one for you, we’ll put you in touch with their foster. You can speak on the phone, have a video call and arrange to meet your chosen animal. We insist on at least one meeting before you commit to adopting, and two visits if you have young children and are adopting a dog.

Bonnie
2 years old
Burgess Hill, E.Sussex
Available to adopt. Apply here
Bonnie has been described as a sweet girl with a gentle soul. A quiet rural setting is perfect for her as she often makes farmyard friends on her walks. Bonnie is a bit of treasure hunter and her foster often comes home from walks with random items Bonnie has found and claimed as hers!
โ
Bonnie arrived in foster very stressed, but has come on leaps and bounds in almost a year. She is receiving support form a behaviourist and showing good progress.
โ
This sweet girl loves attention, especially in the form of cuddles and belly rubs. It may take some time for her to trust you but, once she does, she will be a devoted companion.

Thom is a sweet boy who is extremely sociable and loves being around people. A busy home with lots going on would be perfect for him.
Another playful feline friend could be a good match for him. In foster, he has enjoyed the company of another cat although would happily keep all the attention for himself. Sadly the same cannot be said for the foster’s dog, who Thom will hiss and spit at. Thom has developed a lovely bond with the three-year-old in foster and seems to enjoy the company of children.
Thom can have a sensitive tummy so will need his diet to be monitored and kept to the same food, much to his disgust as this cheeky chappy will often try to steal his human’s food.

George
13 years old
Gravesend, Kent
Available to adopt. Apply here
Distinguished older gentleman George has been described by his foster as “one of the sweetest, most affectionate dogs I've met”! He can be left alone for a few hours provided he is left with a chew to keep him busy! Due to Colitis, his diet must be strictly managed.
โ
George loves to chase his ball around and at meal times his foster is treated to a happy dance routine! Despite his age, he still gets occasional zoomies when excited! He walks well on the lead and ignores other dogs, unless he feels threatened.
โ
George has previously been muzzle trained for Vet visits, however did not need to wear it for his last appointment.

Franny
7 months old
Eastbourne, E.Sussex
Available to adopt. Apply here
Sweet Franny began her time in foster rather timid but is slowly coming out of her shell. She enjoys tummy rubs, fluffy toys and is becoming more confident on walks. Strange noises are still a bit scary but this will improve with time and patience. She is keen to say hello to everyone she meets. Franny tries to get the foster's cat to play with her - she could live with a confident cat who won’t let her play chase.
โ
Franny was dumped at a few weeks old and missed out on vital socialisation. Due to this she isn’t always sure how to behave around other dogs. She will bark at them from the window (although once the curtains are drawn, she will stop) and can guard her possessions. P.A.W.S will provide full support with training and we believe that Franny could live with another dog provided her adopter is committed to training and are able to separate when either dog has something of high value.

Baby Spice, known as Spice in foster, is described as a cuddly, chatty and curious kitty. His foster says he is a beautiful boy with a laid-back personality and that he has grown calmer and more confident in just a couple of weeks.
โ
Spice has a cheeky side – he will not answer to his name and will beg for food between meals, although he is beginning to learn when meal times are. He becomes vocal when dinner finally arrives and enjoys jumping up on the sofa for a chat.

Maple
1 year old
Witham, Essex
Available to adopt. Apply here
Maple is described as a lovely dog who will make someone a really loving pet. In foster, she enjoys the company of two senior dogs and will happily sleep and play with them. Maple has a few anxieties including loud noises and sudden movements. She is wary of new people and often hides when meeting for the first time. However after a few visits she becomes more confident, staying in the same room and gradually working up to letting them stroke her. Maple is likely to need multiple visits prior to adoption.
In the home, Maple becomes vocal when worried. Further training for this will be provided by P.A.W.S, however a home in a quiet location may help with this initially. Maple is heavily routine-focused and would like a home where things happen at the same time each day. With patience and commitment, Maple can grow in confidence and be a loyal companion for life.

Willow is a sensitive soul looking for a quiet home to call her own. In foster, she lives with dogs and cats although is very uncomfortable around them and doesn’t choose to engage with any of them. It’s likely that Willow would prefer to be an only pet. Play seems to be an alien concept to Willow and may need further encouragement in her new home.
โ
She trusts humans very quickly and has been happy to receive attention from new people. On a recent trip to the Vet, Willow was worried by seeing the traffic from her carrier. She may be content as an indoor only cat.

Bear
8 months old
Ipswitch, Suffolk
Available to adopt. Apply here
Bear may be small but he’s full of energy and a tad feisty! He is undergoing training for resource guarding which currently presents with toys, food and furniture with the reactions aimed towards other dogs only. His new home will need to continue with his training to ensure the progress he's made continues to improve. P.A.W.S and Bear’s foster carer will provide advice and support for this.
โ
Out and about, Bear is polite when meeting new dogs, however is not keen on them getting attention from his people and will growl if they do. Bear needs at least one long walk each day as well as training and playtime indoors. At home, he loves chasing his ball and playing with chewy toys. Once he trusts someone he enjoys cuddling up on their lap, although he can then guard the lap from other dogs in the home so this must be carefully managed.
โ
Bear is reactive to new people entering his foster home so is likely to need a few visits before feeling comfortable. He is very happy in the company of children, including those with additional needs.

Chester
6 months old
Bexhill, E.Sussex
Available to adopt. Apply here
Chester is a cheeky chap with a sensitive side. A typical kitten, he is interested in everything going on around him. He lives with cats, dogs and rabbits in foster and gets along with the pack nicely. He enjoys any toys with string and will often find items to carry around the house with him. He can be a pest while his fosters are cooking, attempting to jump onto the countertops – repetitive boundary setting will be key.
Chester can be nervous at times and flinch with sudden movements or hands near his face. As he settles into a new home and builds trust, these fears will subside. He builds bonds with adults quickly and prefers the company of adult women.

Casper
3 years old
Littlehampton, W.Sussex
Available to adopt. Apply here
Casper’s foster describes him as an amazing companion. He has become very affectionate and slowly overcoming his anxieties. Casper can be worried by new things/sounds so his new owners must be patient with him. He was unsure of the 17-year-old male in the home but has started to bark at him less with time.
โ
In foster, Casper lives with two dogs and behaves differently with each. He plays politely with the older male and is respectful of him in general. Casper will happily share space with a female dog close to his age but will growl when she is eating and push her out of the way of treats. If adopted with another dog we would recommend they are fed in separate rooms to avoid this issue.
โ
Currently, Casper doesn’t seem to understand toys but does enjoy playing with socks he steals from the wash basket. He will happily wear a harness and lead and walks nicely without pulling.

Moni
2 years old
Liverpool, Merseyside
Available to adopt. Apply here
Moni is a typical German Shepherd - she is intelligent, goofy and clumsy in equal measures! Her foster describes her as the happiest dog on earth and says nothing phases her. She loves every dog she meets and is always keen to make friends and play. If another dog barks at her she will bark back but can easily be distracted. She is not keen on puppies and small dog jumping up at her so her new owners will need to advocate for her with other dog owners. In foster she lives with five other dogs and is respectful of them all. She will cower and back away when the smallest grumpy dog gets annoyed by her presence.
Moni has slight arthritis in one knee which can be managed with diet, exercise and supplements for now. In the future she may have hip dysplasia as is common in her breed. Having had Parvo as a pup, Moni can struggle to maintain her weight but this is easily solved with some larger meals for a short time. She has received a clean bill of health from the Vet.
We can consider families with children for Moni although she may knock youngsters over. She has not learnt that her tail is attached to her and can clear the coffee table with one wag! At the start of her walks she can pull with excitement but calms down quickly and then walks nicely. Further training will likely improve this more.

Patch
1 year old
Brighton, E.Sussex
Available to adopt. Apply here
Patch’s foster describes him as quiet and shy but affectionate. After hiding for the first day, Patch slowly began to watch from afar and will now accept the occasional cuddle. He can be worried by sudden movements, especially when people are standing and reaching down.
In foster, Patch loves with six other cats and gets on well with cats with relaxed energies. He can become unsure of sassy cats and will sometimes growl or lunge at them. This seems to be a fear-based response rather than aggression.
Patch would be happy as either an indoor or outdoor cat, providing he could be fully entertained and stimulated indoors. He enjoys solo play with catnip toys.

Atlanta
2 years old
Brighton, E.Sussex
Available to adopt. Apply here
Atlanta is described by her foster dad as a one-off, he says he’ll never meet another cat like her! In foster she lives with six other cats and is the absolute Queen Bee, even the normally stand-offish cats have warmed to her. Atlanta has adapted well to a multi cat household and we believe she would happily accept a home with another feline friend.
Although still shy at times, Atlanta is gaining in confidence and enjoying human contact. She can be worried by hands coming towards her but is making improvements each day. Atlanta is a tad overweight so will need her food and exercise to be monitored. Strong willpower will be needed for Atlanta’s new family as she often tries to convince her foster dad that she’s not been fed!
Atlanta would be happy as either an indoor or outdoor cat, providing she could be fully entertained and stimulated indoors. Having initially been scared of toys, she now adores them.
